Common Questions About Dallas Addiction Centers and Programs

Making the decision to get help with an addiction is a huge step forward in reaching sobriety. You may know that treatment is needed, but what that involves may be uncertain. That uncertainty can hold some people back from getting into treatment, which is why we created this FAQ.

Below you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions about Dallas addiction centers and programs. If you have any other questions we’re here to help. You can call our Dallas addiction treatment center to get immediate answers and additional information.

Do You Have to be a Texas Resident to Enroll at a Dallas Addiction Treatment Center?

No. Most addiction treatment centers accept patients from anywhere in the country so long as it’s determined treatment is needed. However, some addiction treatment centers give Texas residents or locals priority if there are a limited number of spots available. Also, funding assistance through state programs are only available to Texas residents. That said, the most important thing to focus on is enrolling at an addiction treatment center that’s certified and has a good record of success no matter where it’s located.

What Programs Are Offered at a Dallas Addiction Center?

That depends on the addiction treatment center. There’s no state policy or regulations on what programs are offered. Addiction treatment centers can offer a variety of programs or specialize in one type of program. The variation in treatment programs is one reason why it’s so important to compare Dallas addiction centers. For treatment to be effective it needs to address your unique needs.

Programs at addiction treatment centers in Dallas include:

  • Detox Programs
  • Medically-Assisted Detox
  • Inpatient Residential Programs
  • Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP)
  • Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP)
  • Extended Care Programs
  • Dual Diagnosis
  • Gender-Specific Programs
  • Substance-Specific Programs
  • Recovery Coaching Programs
  • Sober Living

There are addiction treatment programs for every stage of recovery. The severity of the addiction will be a key determining factor in deciding which program is the most appropriate. If you’d like to know more about a program you can read through our Partial Hospitalization Program FAQ or the general addiction treatment FAQ for answers about IOP, Sober Living, and Recovery Coaching.

What Happens When You Enter an Addiction Recovery Center in Dallas?

After an initial assessment, the addiction recovery center will determine if treatment will be beneficial and what level of care is needed. You’ll then be able to enroll in a program. What happens next will depend on the type of program you’re entering.

Inpatient Residential Treatment Programs

When you enroll in a residential addiction treatment program it is a total lifestyle change since you are staying at the facility. You will check in and be assigned living quarters. Almost immediately you’ll have an intake interview with your medical team. This in-depth interview will be used to create a personalized treatment program. From there you’ll enter detox, which may require medical assistance. Once detox is complete you’ll have a daily structured routine that includes therapy and onsite activities.

Outpatient Treatment Programs

Entering outpatient treatment programs isn’t as big a transition as entering an inpatient program where you stay at the facility 24/7. People in outpatient programs have already gone through detox and the initial stages of rehab. The first step will still be an in-depth interview to assess the patient’ health, severity of addiction and goals for recovery. A schedule for group and individual therapy will then be created. Typically, outpatient addiction treatment programs require 3-6 days of therapy at the facility, which will most likely start that same day.

How Long Does Addiction Treatment Last?

Addiction treatment is a long progress that takes time as you move through the stages of recovery. Most substance abuse treatment programs are at least 30 days, but there are shorter intensive programs that are 7-10 days. These programs are usually for people in the detox stage who will then move on to an inpatient or PHP program that’s at least a month long.

Many Dallas addiction recovery centers create personalized treatment plans, which means the length of a program can be different from one person to the next. It’s common to see 30, 60 and 90-day inpatient programs. PHP and IOP programs often last six weeks, but can be extended for longer periods.

When a person enters a Sober Living Home it’s recommended that the individual stay at least 90 days, which could be a requirement. Residents at our Sober Living Home in Dallas stay for 5-8 months on average.

Can a Person Leave a Dallas Addiction Center Whenever They Want?

Legal adults that are 18 years old or older can leave a program if they want, however, it’s not recommended. The initial stages of treatment can be very difficult and it’s important to stick with the program so that the addiction cycle can be broken. Even if you relapse you can stay in treatment, which is highly recommended.
