When you’re considering your substance abuse treatment options, you may come across services that you didn’t know were available. Many people mistakenly think that going to rehab means they have to live 24/7 in a facility. The process can sometimes include residential in-patient treatment, however Partial Hospitalization Programs give patients another option.

A Partial Hospitalization Program, also known as a PHP, allows patients to live at home or a Sober Living house while receiving full-time treatment for addiction. It’s a flexible solution that can benefit most people who are on the path to recovery.

This FAQ covers the most common questions that patients and their loved ones have about Partial Hospitalization Programs in Dallas, TX.  If you have other questions or would like additional information our helpful team is available seven days a week to provide assistance.

Who Qualifies for a PHP Behavioral Health Program?

Before enrolling patients in our Partial Health Program in Dallas we conduct a free assessment with a trained professional. After the evaluation they will determine if a PHP should be part of your unique recovery plan. Most often PHP is used by individuals who have already completed residential treatment at a facility but are still in the early stages of recovery. There are also patients who begin treatment in a PHP because in-patient treatment isn’t possible.

How Long is a Partial Hospitalization Program in Dallas?

A PHP is intensive and meant to fully engage the patient throughout the program. Although many hours a week are dedicated to the program, a Partial Hospitalization Program in Dallas typically lasts just 4-6 weeks. However, it should be noted that the exact length of time can vary from patient to patient based on their needs and response to the program.

How is PHP Different Than IOP?

A Partial Hospitalization Program and an Intensive Outpatient Program share some similarities, but there are a few distinct differences between the two services. The key difference is the time spent in the program. PHPs require that patients participate in 25-40 hours of therapy a week. An IOP is a part-time program that requires approximately 12 hours of therapy a week. Ideally, a patient would move from a PHP program to an IOP program to continue their recovery.

How Big Are the PHP Group Therapy Sessions?

The thought of going to a group therapy session with dozens of strangers can be overwhelming for anyone. Rest assured, at Lighthouse Recovery group sessions are more intimate with a maximum of eight members. This allows members of the group to get the attention they need each session and create bonds with others in the group without feeling intimidated.

Will Insurance Cover the Cost of PHP?

In many cases, private insurance will help cover the costs that are associated with a PHP behavioral health program. Medicare also covers a portion of the cost for PHP services. If a patient needs assistance paying the remainder of the costs or is uninsured they may be able to set up a payment plan. The money in a Health Savings Account (HSA) may also be used to cover the cost of PHP.

What Types of Therapy Are Used in a Partial Hospitalization Program?

The types of therapy used in a PHP depend on the patient’s needs and history. There will be individual psychological evaluations and therapy sessions as well as group therapy sessions. Common therapies used during the sessions include:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
  • Psychodynamic Interpersonal Therapy (PIT)
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • Experiential Therapy
  • Mindfulness Training

The PHP should also include communication and life skills training that are needed to help patients maintain sobriety after they’ve completed the program.

Will I Be Removed From the Partial Hospitalization Program If I Relapse?

No, you won’t be removed from the program if you relapse. In fact, the support that you gain from being in a PHP can help you recover quickly from a relapse and keep making progress towards recovery.

How Can I Find PHP Programs Near Me?

Unfortunately, PHP programs aren’t available in all cities, however, most major metropolitan areas have PHP service providers. You can do a quick Google search for PHP programs in the local area, or check with your insurance provider for programs that are covered by your healthcare plan.

It’s important to keep a few things in mind when you’re comparing PHP programs:

  • The amount of therapy that is provided each week.
  • The qualifications of the therapists.
  • The size of the group therapy sessions.
  • The types of therapy that are used or suggested.
  • How customized the program is to your needs.
  • The level of support that’s provided.
  • The reputation of the treatment center.
  • Availability of additional services to continue the recovery process.
