Today, you have options when it comes to addiction treatment in Dallas. While this means that there is more vital support, it can also lead to confusion and even frustration. How do you know which Dallas addiction center will provide the best treatment? And what type of addiction therapy is appropriate for your situation?

Answering those questions requires understanding your options. Below we’ve provided information on the most common types of Dallas addiction treatment centers and the therapy programs that they offer.

Dallas Addiction Centers

Detox Centers

A detox center provides detoxification services that initiate recovery. This is a very delicate period of recovery that requires specialized expertise and support. Due to the addiction itself and withdrawal symptoms many people end up relapsing if they try to detox on their own.

There are two main categories of detox centers: medically-assisted detox and traditional detox without medications. Not all addictions have medications to aid the detox process, so this isn’t always a factor in which type of detox center to choose.

Residential Addiction Treatment Centers

If you stay onsite at a Dallas addiction center during treatment for a substance use disorder (SUD) then you’re at a residential treatment center. It’s an ideal option for someone who is in the detox stage or has just completed detox and still needs a high level of structure and oversight. The patient will receive round-the-clock care, including medications to ease the recovery process.

Hospital Treatment Centers

Some hospitals actually have addiction treatment facilities. This type of addiction treatment center offers services that are comparable to other centers. The only difference is it’s attached to a hospital. Often hospital treatment centers provide detox services prior to drug rehab therapy.

Outpatient Addiction Recovery Centers

An outpatient addiction recovery center provides a wide range of services for patients who no longer require 24-hour care and accountability. The center will have a medical staff that can assist with medication management, provide psychiatric support and assess the effectiveness of treatment. Emphasis is put on helping patients integrate into a positive community and resolve issues that lead to the addiction.

Sober Living Homes

While a Sober Living home isn’t technically an addiction treatment center, it is a place where people in recovery can find support and take part in group therapy as well as Recovery Coaching with peers that have overcome their own addiction.

Addiction Treatment Programs in Dallas

Inpatient Treatment Program

Inpatient treatment programs are the therapy programs that happen in a residential addiction treatment center. These are 24-hour programs that allow medical staff to monitor the health of patients at all times. People often choose this type of addiction treatment program after getting through detox. Typically inpatient treatment programs last 30, 60 or 90 days.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

A Partial Hospitalization Program is considered the next step down from a residential treatment program or a level of care sufficient if the client has a supportive and safe living environment. The patients don’t reside at the addiction treatment center, but they do come in for treatment 3-7 days a week. Treatment consists of individual therapy, group therapy, skills training and possibly medication management. Generally, PHP programs are around six weeks long, however the program can be extended if the patient feels they need the structure.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

An Intensive Outpatient Program is a step down from a PHP in terms of the amount of structure and weekly commitment to coming into the addiction recovery center for treatment. Like a PHP, an IOP treatment plan can consist of a variety of different therapies that are tailored to the individual’s specific needs. Patients in an Intensive Outpatient Program usually come to the facility for therapy 3-5 days a week to participate in one-on-one and group counseling.

Specialty Addiction Treatment Programs

At Lighthouse Recovery we create a custom treatment plan for every patient that takes their unique history and circumstances into account. Some Dallas addiction centers take a slightly different approach and create treatment programs that are tailored to a specific group of people or type of addiction.

A few examples of these specialized addiction treatment programs include special groups for pregnant and post-partum women. There are also addiction treatment programs for military members, teens and former inmates.

Extended Care Programs

Addiction is a chronic disease that must be continuously managed. Years into sobriety a person could find themselves struggling to stay sober, or they could even relapse. Extended care programs are designed to provide continued support so that you can stay the course by building a foundation for long-term recovery. These types of programs address more than addiction. They aim to teach invaluable life skills, address co-occuring mental health issues and help people in recovery rebuild their lives.

AA and NA Meetings

While attending AA or NA meetings isn’t a formal treatment program like the other types of addiction therapy listed above, it can be very beneficial for someone who’s in recovery. Since the meetings are free and open to anyone in recovery, AA and NA meetings are a resource that can be used at any time to supplement the work being done in a program or to strengthen your resolve to stay sober.
