Clinical Treatment Modalities

At Lighthouse Recovery, we employ a comprehensive range of treatment modalities that have been proven effective in addressing substance abuse and supporting individuals on their path to recovery. Our approach is holistic, evidence-based, and tailored to meet the unique needs of each client.

Experiential Therapy

Experiential therapy employs activities to delve into thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It harnesses the belief that personal growth stems from experience, offering a safe and supportive environment. In treatment, experiential therapy aids individuals in exploring, developing coping skills, fostering relationships, and making transformative changes.

Goal Setting Theory

Goal setting theory suggests that clear, specific, and challenging goals increase the likelihood of achievement. It also emphasizes the importance of having a plan and tracking progress. In treatment, goal-setting theory aids individuals in establishing and attaining recovery goals. Counselors assist clients in identifying goals, breaking them into manageable steps, devising a plan, and monitoring progress.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational interviewing (MI) is a client-centered counseling technique that addresses hesitancy to change. It fosters collaboration, focusing on the individual’s motivation and strengths instead of the counselor’s expertise. MI is often used in treatment programs to enhance motivation and promote behavior change in people with substance use disorders.

Attachment Theory

Attachment theory explores the emotional bonds between infants, children, and their caregivers, influencing self-development, trust, and intimacy. In our treatment programs, it aids individuals in comprehending how early attachments shape their present relationships and behaviors.

Family Systems

Family systems theory sees the family as a unified system, not just individuals. It encompasses interconnected parts, including members, relationships, culture, and values. In clinical treatment, family systems theory aids individuals in grasping how their family influences addiction and recovery. It also facilitates altering family dynamics to promote recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

What is an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)?

An IOP is a type of addiction treatment that provides more intensive care than outpatient therapy, but less than inpatient treatment. It typically involves 3-4 hours of treatment per day, 3-5 days a week, for 8-12 weeks. The sessions will usually consist of a combination of individual and group therapy, helping individuals better cope with any emotional or behavioral issues they may be facing. If you are on any psychiatric medications, you will likely be meeting with a psychiatrist for medication management and assessment. IOPs can be a good option for people who are ready to make a serious commitment to recovery, but who do not need 24/7 supervision.

What is the goal of an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)?

The goal of intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) is to help people with substance use disorders achieve and maintain sobriety. Some outcomes of IOPs include achieving and maintaining sobriety, developing coping skills, improving your mental health, and reintegrating into your community.

What is the daily and weekly schedule of our IOP?

While participating in our intensive outpatient program in Dallas, the individual will attend private and group therapy sessions. Our IOP structure includes 9 hours of group therapy that’s three hours a day, three days a week. Patients also attend at least one hour-long individual therapy session a week, as well as weekly psychiatrist visits. Each patient is also paired with a recovery coach that is available outside of the clinical setting. The recovery coach will help the patient set goals and provide accountability and support whenever needed.

How many people are in an IOP group?

The industry standard for IOP group therapy sessions is 14-16 participants. At Lighthouse Recovery Texas we find that this practice can hinder group culture, and as a result, we limit all of our groups to 8 participants. This allows the members of each group to receive the individual attention they need.

Will insurance cover the cost of IOP?

In many cases, private insurance will help cover the costs that are associated with an intensive outpatient program (IOP). Lighthouse Recovery Texas is in network with most major providers. To see what your coverage would be, you can verify your benefits here.

Are clients immediately discharged from IOP if they relapse?

No, you won’t be removed from the program if you relapse. In fact, the support that you gain from being in an IOP can help you recover quickly from a relapse and keep making progress toward recovery.

Who would qualify for an IOP?

Before enrolling patients in our intensive outpatient program in Dallas, we conduct a free assessment with a trained professional so that we can take into account the individual’s history to determine what level of care they need. After the evaluation, they will determine if an IOP should be part of your unique recovery plan. Most often individuals who qualify for an IOP level of care have made significant steps toward recovery, but still need support to create and maintain healthy habits and patterns.

How long does IOP last for?

An Intensive Outpatient Program is comprehensive and meant to fully engage the patient throughout the program. Although many hours a week are dedicated to the program, our IOP typically lasts 12 weeks. However, it should be noted that the exact length of time can vary from patient to patient based on their needs and response to the program.

How is IOP different from PHP?

A Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) share some similarities, but there are a few distinct differences between the two services. The key difference is the time spent in the program. PHPs require that patients participate in 25-40 hours of therapy a week. An IOP is a part-time program that requires 9-15 hours of therapy a week. Ideally, a patient would move from a PHP program to an IOP program to continue their recovery. Our PHP program at Lighthouse Recovery Texas is 30 hours a week and lasts for 4 weeks.
